Why Everyone should try Lent

No bible preaching here. Just a thought. As a catholic, we participate in lent which is 40 days before Easter Sunday.

The reason for my title is that for me, Lent is a chance at renewal. I can wipe the slate clean and start over without worries or noise in my head or guilt. I get the chance to re-invigorate myself and examine my defects.

So many people out there in the world are so lost. Millions spent on therapy yet people still carry such guilt in their hearts when they should realize that we are all human. We all make mistakes. And, we all deserve a second chance at getting it right. Or a third or a fourth, etc.

Lent allows me to let go of what I’ve done. Yelling at the guy in the supermarket. Giving someone the finger driving. Or a big problem of mine, calling people m****r f****r all the time. That’s something I try not to do but you can take the girl out of the Bronx, you know the rest.

And then there’s the really bad stuff that I don’t tell anyone except my priest because he’s not allowed to talk. And if you go to the right priest, he won’t judge either. Did you hear what I said, the right priest.

I was jaded as a child by jerky priests and I learned that although they were annoying, God loved and forgave me anyway. That’s the point to this all.
Feeling forgiven and moving on.

I hope my little Lent speech helped someone. I’m not saying to run to your local church and start spewing things at the first priest you see. The beauty of confession and forgiveness is that you can, I can’t but you can, sit anywhere and do it.

Renew yourself and put it in a bubble and let it float away. These 40 days are the perfect time. It’s definitely easier than the New Years resolution that last a few weeks and than you’re done. I actually stole that one from the priest.
Ooops, have to go to confession AGAIN!

Have a great day ad Keep Looking Up!!!

About goplayintraffic

My Blog, which began as a mommy blog and turned into a writing website, www.write2survive.com, is the product of my years of being home with my children and trying to find ways to keep myself sane. I have always had this feeling, coming from a single mother, that I have to contribute financially and that I have to be able to take care of myself and my children. having been married, being a NYC school teacher, having four children, living in Newtown, CT and trying to find a way to get through each day with a smile has always been something I've strived for. My stories, articles and poems will do a lot of things but mostly make you feel. I think that is what is so wonderful about having the ability to write. I have been given the gift of taking my emotions and transferring them to written word. Once that is done, I can share those words with others who may feel better, maybe just for a moment, but better nonetheless having read my words. I am glad you are here and hope you will stay:)
