Leather Couch Transformation on the cheap

For the last week I have been working on getting rid of the clutter in my life.

There are so many times I walk around the house yelling at everyone for being slobs. I figured all the mess was theirs.
As I started going through stuff, I realized most of it was crap I brought in either from a store, tag sale, good will or someone’s giveaways.

So I started in the living room. I washed and oiled the bookcases. Cleaned and organized the stuff in the cabinets.

We have an old leather chair and an old leather couch. We also have another chair and love seat. I attempted to wash the slip covers. Unsuccessful! Still filthy!

Then I used a magic erase to wash the leather. After that I used a concoction of 1/8 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of olive oil. I applied the mixture to the leather and then let it soak in a few minutes. Lastly, I used one of those buffer brushes you can get at the .99 cent store and buffed.

I am posting the before and after pics.

I would make sure, prior to using this concoction, testing it first. I had nothing to lose if it didn’t work.

Anyway, my objective is to clean, organize and re-purpose everything on the house. I refuse to buy anything new. I have enough stuff in the house to use.

I’m even going towel curtains for the living room. I will post when done.

Happy Monday.

About goplayintraffic

My Blog, which began as a mommy blog and turned into a writing website, www.write2survive.com, is the product of my years of being home with my children and trying to find ways to keep myself sane. I have always had this feeling, coming from a single mother, that I have to contribute financially and that I have to be able to take care of myself and my children. having been married, being a NYC school teacher, having four children, living in Newtown, CT and trying to find a way to get through each day with a smile has always been something I've strived for. My stories, articles and poems will do a lot of things but mostly make you feel. I think that is what is so wonderful about having the ability to write. I have been given the gift of taking my emotions and transferring them to written word. Once that is done, I can share those words with others who may feel better, maybe just for a moment, but better nonetheless having read my words. I am glad you are here and hope you will stay:)
